Creating arcade CPs for extra money
« on: September 26, 2013, 01:42:36 pm »
Anyone know if this is worth it.

I just wanted to create Dynamo style arcade control panels for some extra dough.  Usually wood/plexi cost is about 20.  And they sell for like 75.

I'm sure someone on here has done this before.

Worth pursuing?

If you have a product people want, and you have the inspiration to see it through, then yes, it's certainly worth pursuing. (In fact, I have toyed with this idea myself as well, as I have recently started producing bartop, cocktail and pinball cabinets for the Canadian market.)

Just remember, it's as much your professional attitude, the speed at which you answer questions, respond to e-mails, and the quality of your personality when dealing with people - even the ones that give you challenge - as it is a quality product. That is what it takes to have a successful business.

If you make the whole pedestal and stick a computer in there that people can put in front of their wall mounted flatscreen you may have some customers.  But who is going to buy just a large control panel?  ???

Don't do this. If you don't have a product to sell, don't post on Craigslist. Feel free to post that you provide a service to build them, sure, but no "mock" ads.

I'm in NJ.

I wouldn't use Craigslist though.  I would use Ebay, community forums such as this, IAMKLOV, and shoryuken where i already buy and sell items from people.

I would make them able to be broken down and shipped easier.  Like ikea style.

That's considered "flat pack" packaging. Check out Haruman's thread and my personal thread for some information and possibly inspiration.

Good luck!

Why no craigslist? I sell the bulk of my stuff there
