Joystick shaft length
« on: September 13, 2013, 05:19:05 pm »
I was going to use 1/2 mdf to make my 2 player control panel because i didn't want to hollow out 1/4" for the joystick mounting plate.  Now that I have the mag stik with me I plan to undermount it so no screws up top visible on the cp. if I stick with the 3/4" mdf and undermount it I think I still have a comfortable distance of the joystick shaft without hollowing the wood out for the template.

Am I missing something here?  Not sure why the joystick shaft has to stick out so much so most will say to hollow out 1/4" for the mounting plate.

Just looking back at cabs like pacman the joystick shaft is quite low.

S'all personal preference brah. Get enough material where you can try fabricating a couple different test panels that you can swap parts to. On my multiwilliams cabaret I used magstik+'s with the balltops and a 3/4" panel with no pocket routed. I did it that way because they ended at a nice in between height that worked well for defender and robotron along with many other titles.

good day.

Chopper:  exactly. That's what I found out. I don't see any issue with not routing out the 3/4" I was so focused on what I thought was a "must do" in terms of having to route out the 3/4" wood for the stick to mount.

Back to home depot for a 3/4" panel. I just wasted $ on a 1/2. Oh well.
