Painting the cabinet...primer?
« on: September 11, 2013, 07:47:42 am »
I'm about to paint my cabinet, it is mostly mdf, but there are a few pine boards as well.I have some black semi gloss behr premium paint and primer in one...do you think that would be sufficient? Or would I be better off using an actual primer on it first? I have a quart of white kilz latex primer I could use, I just want sure if it is necessary.

Use it if you have it. You will get better coverage and less color variation between your wood types if you use the real primer first.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

If you have two different types of surfaces the paint primer will show it if you only use one coat.  If you apply the kilz primer and sand it down it will give the appearance of being the same texture and color.  Then apply the black all in one and it will give you a uniform surface look.

Sounds like a plan...Thanks guys. Do you think a quart will be enough

This is a pedestal with control panel. Base is 24x24x35, plus the box for the control panel which is roughly 46x18x5

I painted my Galaga with 2 quarts, but I did multiple coats.

I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

good, that means that a quart of primer should be enough for my pedestal then, since it is only about half the size of a full upright cabinet.

thanks.
