How do Tron handles fasten together?
« on: November 17, 2003, 11:29:43 pm »
I have the screws for the top of the handle, but what about the 2 holes in the lower handle?

I am trying to secure the handles to a heavily reworked Happ Super lever...but I am thinking that I will need to make a custom hollow lever of some sort. Any suggestions?

The bottom parts of the handle screw right into the metal shaft of the original joystick.  Prevents twisting.

Maybe you can hack the one from happ controls?  Or find a shaft the same diameter and drill some holes in it to match.

I'm going to OSH after work to look for the hollow shaft.

The artwork looks awesome BTW...I've been waiting to post until I get the pics developed... ;)

The handles can be mounted to any pipe that is about 7/8" in diameter.  I was inspired by 1up and made a Tron joystick using the plastic sides, a perfect 360 and a 1/2 PVC pipe.  PVC is great because it is very easy to tap out the holes for the metric security socket cap bolts that are typically used.  I made the PVC version as a template and had planned on building the final version with metal conduit;  however, the PVC worked so well that metal was not necessary.

Well, I found some galvanized pipe that is the same OD as a Happ Super js. Its acutally a hollow nipple, so on one end I put a coupling 1/4 to 1/2 inch coupler on it and it fits in the bottom of the Tron handle.

I used a 1/2" sprinkler riser (1up mentioned this I think) on the inside. I'm still working on it, but I think this will work perfectly...after some modification of course  ;)
