Rewiring control panel soon...Quick question about wire...
« on: September 06, 2013, 12:14:02 pm »
I'm in the process of redoing my cp wiring and was going to buy some bulk 22awg wire, it is "tinned" copper strand. I don't recall any one mentioning not to use tinned wire. Will this be OK to use? The only Con's I saw was possibly lower conductivity(use for cp controls I can't imagine one would notice), and its a little stiffer than non tinned. Any advice?

Should be fine if it is stranded instead of solid core.

Just to be sure, can you post a link?

Sounds like it is going to be solid core if it is tinned

Would 22 gauge be considered -too- thin in any CP applications, like in RGB LEDs for example? Plan on buying wire in a few colors for upcoming projects and want to make sure I'm getting the most versatile wire for most of my jobs. How about routing video feeds, ground, and voltage (5V and 12V) between adapter boards?

(Sorry for hijacking the thread, still on topic I hope).

Future Projects: Galaxian Anniversary, Mario VS DK, Rebirth

22AWG is a great balance between flexibility, current capacity, and ease of use. (stripping and crimping)

Should be fine for pretty much any CP application, but check the current draw and leave yourself some wiggle room.

i.e. 20 RGB LEDs drawing 60 mA each = 1.2 A -- no problem.   ;D
