Player Buttons

I plan on using 6 buttons per player but I'm just curious what games use 8 buttons?  If there is a need then I'll expand my control panel since it is still in the design stage.

Most games will be fighting games like Street Fighter and Capcom vs Street Fighter etc.

Unless you are planning to play console games, then 6 buttons is fine.

Also note that 8 button console games are normally nearly unplayable on arcade controls as many use shoulder buttons in a directional manner that does not map intuitively onto an arcade button layout.
