  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Please, a little help with demul 0.5.7
« on: August 21, 2013, 08:56:09 pm »
Guys, a little help. I am getting a few games that run the Naomi bios and run the game, but I get these error messages (like king of rout 66) or club kart. All I want is to go to the service menu, but once I go there the screen is all black, and I see a few words like menu and rom, but it's impossible to navigate. I have seen videos of people bypassing these messages, and thus letting the game run. Please help, much appreciated.

Just a shot in the dark, but try enabling or disabling some of the video options.
That can make things appear or disappear.

Those games are NAOMI2, I doubt they work all that well in v5.7 anyway.

Thanks BadMouth, I will try that. Atomisware service menu works perfect, just like nulldc. The one I want the most is King of route 66, which also gives me some message and does not boot the game. I was hoping it would be like Manx tt for sega model 2, where in order for the game to work, you just go to the service menu and change the arcade cabinet type.
In your opinion, what is the best naomi 1 emulator out there? Should I try Makaron? Thanks again.

Depends on the game.  I use Demul for Atomiswave, lightgun games, and driving games. (Jambo Safari and Crazy taxi are the only Naomi driving games that are playable for me.  Initial D is somewhat playable on a bleeding edge powerhouse system)

I use Makaron for the Shmups and some of the fighting games because it runs faster on my system.

Not all the games work, especially when it comes to Naomi2.
IIRC, I got Club Kart to boot once, but it had so many other issues, it was unplayable.

EDIT:  I've never used NullDC for NAOMI and I'm not aware of anyone else using it on their cab for NAOMI.  I did install it many versions ago for dreamcast games.

Thanks man. I wanna thank you and other members for helping out. You might not remember but I came here a week ago "begging" for help with sega model 2. It's been a week and model 2 plays great (even with 360 controller). Model 3 scud race is very slow, but star wars trilogy and lost worlds is perfect also. And nulldc for dreamcast (even with vmu save blocks) is the smoothest one. Thank you again for all the help with all this stuff.

If you get a chance, try out Demul 0.58. It fixed a ton of problems. I use it exclusively.

Thanks WindDraker. I will try 0.5.8. What about the new MAME that came out (i think 0.149?) Does MAME run these Naomi games? It's confusing because at some big websites, all naomi 1 and 2 games are listed under MAME. Sorry for my ignorance, thanks for the reply

MAME is in the process of getting Naomi 1/2 emulation working, but does not actually play anything right now, no.

MAME is in the process of getting Naomi 1/2 emulation working, but does not actually play anything right now, no.

Emulation working and game being playable are two vastly different things.
In MAME, the 3D processing will be emulated, not offloaded to the video card.
I can't even fathom how fast of a processor it would take to run if fully emulated in MAME.

Makaron and Demul offload rendering to the video card and employ things like dynamic recompiling to get the game working faster.
They are more focused on making the game playable rather than emulating the hardware it ran on.

Trying to emulate the SH4 was bad enough. I don't even want to think about what a software GPU core would eat up.
