First off let me say hello again. Been out of this hobby for some time and coming back. I ugraded my computer in my vertical cab and also upgraded the monitor from a 19" to 25" and now im having issues.

old machine:
dos running arcadeos (anyone remember that?) arcadevga on a 19" wells garner monitor. Worked perfect

new machine:
windows xp 64
mala
vertical mounted 25" arcade monitor
aracdevga card
groovymame

I think I may have done something wrong with the drivers. I cant get mame to accept any settings in the mame, ini file to make the games appear vertical. I changed rotate I changed rol and ror and nothing makes a differents. All vertical and horizontal games appear horizontal or sideways on my vertical mounted monitor.

I have an arcadevga card. im using calamitys crt emu drivers. I ran vmmaker.
I have no utilities installed to rotate desktop and I just assume let groovymame do the rotating. a sideways desktop doesn't matter as I wont ever use it and eventually will hide it.
most frontend has a rotation ability and im using malas rotation option which does work. but for now im using mame from command line only trying to get this to work.

regarding vertical monitor and vertical pacman, or any game, mame however wont cooperate. please assist if you can. ve spend 2 hours trying changes to mame ini that make no difference.

If you change it in the in-game menu for each game does it work?

The ini files of the individual games (if they exist) override mame.ini
If changing it in-game works, then delete all the individual game files in the INI folder located in your MAME folder.

Also, just covering the bases here, but you do have

rotate                    1

in mame.ini?  Not much point in telling it which direction to rotate if you haven't told it to rotate.  ;)

yes sorry. I do have rotate 1
Yes it ignores that too.
How do I change it in the ingame menu?
How could I have INI files telling it to do the wrong thing for every game I try even if I have never played the game before? im heading downstairs now to see if there is a pacman.ini messing me up.
But what your saying is rotate =1 and rol=1 is my correct setting for my monitor setup. Correct? thanks for the reply.

update:
I just checked all those settings. there is nothing in pacman.cfg regarding orientation and no pacman.ini

update:
I just tried to install 6.11 catalyst control panel for crt emudrivers and it overwrote some of the arcdadevga timings and cause the monitor to go out of sync. I was thinking if I just rotate with drivers that would work. however cant even do that.

This thread makes me think it's a groovymame issue.
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,134066.0.html

There is a groovymame subforum where you might find help.

Sorry, I've never used groovymame....but it sounds groovy.  :afro:
