E-Limitator Help Please...
« on: August 20, 2013, 11:57:13 am »
Hi!

I've been working on my all inclusive control panel for about 2 months now and am nearly finished.  I have everything hooked up and ready to go, but I'm running into an issue that I'm not sure how to fix or where to look to fix it.

I am using the E-Limitator with an i-Pac4 and have players 1 & 2 connected to it.  I have all the connections setup based on the instructions for the board, but am not sure what is going on.  I purchased the assembled one, so hopefully it was tested working, etc... before it was sent, but I can't necessarily guarantee that so I'm trying to eliminate anything I can first on my end.

My questions are this:

1)  The LED is hooked up and connected to the board according to the instructions, but it isn't on all the time.  Should it be lit up continuously showing the mode it is in or only when a direction/input is hit?
2)  The LED lights up when a direction is hit on the joysticks as purple to which means it is in 8 way mode, but when I press the button nothing changes.

I have all the wires for player 1 and 2 connected to both the joystick and the iPac4, I have the LED connections plugged in, and I have the ground from the LED and the button to the GND connection.  I am using the red connection of a PC Molex connector for the +5V connection on the board, but I'm not 100% if that is right or not.

Would anyone be able to offer any help?

PS>  I was planning on uploading pictures after I have it all completed.

Thank you so much!  Will update this thread with what information I can find so other people know what is going on.

Edit:
1)  The LED should be on as soon as the system is on.  This will help you know if connected right.
2)  Evidently the GND on the board needs to be hooked to a GND on something else (iPac, ect)...  Which makes sense after thinking about it, but was an oversight on my part.  Once I connected the button, LED, and board GND to the iPAC GND everything worked like a charm!

Thank you for the help!
