ARGH! Original paint coming off!
« on: November 15, 2003, 05:01:42 pm »
Started to remove the black paint from my joust cab. Boy did the goof off do a number on my noggin.

Anyway, I tried to clean up the job, and it started pulling off the original brown! How do I get the last bits of black paint, without destroying my beautiful artwork?

Well, you SHOULD be using 3M Safest Stripper, and not Goof Off.

Switch to that immediately. You usually have to do extensive touch ups when you do that kind of paint removal anyway.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

I agree, You have to expect some touchup work.  Just get the paint matched at a home depot or something (they usually do a fairly good job is the paint dude is half awake).  Mask off the good bits and touch up the bad.  Remember, you're using this stuff to remove paint, it doesn't know the difference between artwork paint and roller paint usually...

Hey, try this stuff!  Works Great, I used it to get the paint off my Centipede Cabinet and it doesn't even mess up the original artwork at all.  The only thing is that the paint your trying to remove needs to be Latex based for it to work.   I left this stuff on for Long periods of time and it will only remove the latex paint.

I bought it at Home Depot, its about $5 or $6 a bottle, but it's really worth it!

I think I'll give all the solutions a try. I have another side yet to do (and hopefully not screw up) there are a lot of scratches, so touching up is a neccesity anyway.

Thanks to everyone for the help!
