Best cocktail kit right now?
« on: August 04, 2013, 12:53:05 pm »
Hey all, as I lost my bartop in my recent divorce, I'm looking to build another cabinet.

Was hoping to get an arcade depot cocktail, but who knows when or if they will be back.

What, in your knowledgable opinion, is the best cocktail cabinet out there?

I would like for it to have a glass top, and be able to add a 3rd 2P CP along a long side.

I would also prefer wood grain, but if the best is a black one,
then it is.  :)

Making my own isn't an option.  I live outside of DC, have no room for tools, and don't know anyone who does have that kind of space/equipment.

Thanks!

  • No. It's your top score on Pole Position.

Here are two I have had my eye on for my next build.  If you dig the black finish I'm sure you have room for a can of varnish and a paint brush.

I know you can't add a long CP to the Arcade shop one, as I've spoken to him before.  I really wanted to have some fighters on there, and not just vertical games.

Also, arcade depot would be my preference, but they've shut down since the hurricane, and at this point, despite what it says on their homepage, I seriously doubt he will re-open.

Thanks for the suggestions!

If you are looking for something small but still has the compatibility of a fighter you might want to pick up a weecade kit.  They have a  small form factor foot print and you can play both vertical and horizontal games.  Kind of a long shot too.  People are really open on this forum.  You might even be able to coerce someone to build you a cocktail cab as a commissioned project.  Worth a try.  Good luck.

Hey there, I do have several bartop kits to choose from (weecade, widescreen weecade, Neo Geo, vertical)...

I also am working on plans for a Midway - style cocktail kit this week, but am still probably a couple of weeks away from a prototype.

A 3 sided cocktail is anything but small, one of those babies eats as much room as 3 full sized upright cabinets.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

Could you not use a standard cocktail and make a removable long CP for side by side. I was thinking about doing this myself for the cocktail I built

I could, but I don't have the ability to do anything other than wiring and assembly, given my living arrangements.

Yes, a cocktail is pretty big.  I had a bartop before, and I'm looking for something that doesn't take up table surface, but provides it.

I own a recording studio in my home, and the reason I'm thinking cocktail is that it could also serve double duty as a table when not being played in the lounge/studio area.  I try to have all the space there functional in some way, and that would provide.

I suppose I can ask mameroom if their cocktail can do a 3rd side.  Their kit was fine before.

Thanks for the suggestion about posting on here, that's a good option as well, I will look into that.
