Rowe Ami r84 problem
« on: August 02, 2013, 12:54:38 pm »
Hi guys,
Firstly hello, and sorry my first post is a 'help' me kind of post.
Myself and my wife own a tattoo shop and we have a rowe ami r84 juke box in our reception area,
It's been working brilliantly up until yesterday when it selected a record (although it never picked up the record, and the carousel did't spin)
Ive tried resetting (switching it off for 5 mins) it which seemed to work but it's done it again today,
It has the selection on the screen, and even tells you that the selection is playing but its spinning the turntable and there's no record on there, the stylus stays where it is.
It almost seems like the carousel wheel is seized or the motor that controls it is faulty. I'm in the UK
If anyone knows where to try to get it sorted then I'd be eternally grateful.
Cheers,
Paulie @ Fortey's body art boutique

More information,
We've come into work this morning and it's working fine.
It's almost like its over heating.
When it does play up you can turn it to the 'service' position on the switch, and back on again, and usually the carousel kicks back into life, but yesterday, when I tried this trick it didn't work, it just kept making a click noise, (I think it was the 'total plays' timer notching up another play.
I've tried to contact a juke box firm close to us in the west midlands but apparently they aren't doing repairs or servicing anymore :(

Hello Paulie,

Welcome to the forum.

I am based in Sheffield UK and I am more or less the European expert on Rowe Ami for my sins.

When the jukebox is switched on does it scan the mechanism/carousel?
If not do you hear a noise that is coming from the motor?
If you put the service switch to SERVICE and press the cancel button on the mechanism (near to the tone arm) what happens?

We can supply you with parts or you can bring the mechanism to Sheffield for us to service it.

Regards
Alan

Hi Alan,

Thank you for your reply.

I have just switched the it on, when you do switch it on, it does scan the carousel. I've then put the service switch on and pressed the cancel/scan button and it moves the carousel along a little bit, for as long as you hold the button for.

However, I believe it to be something breaking down under load or heat. Reason I say that is because it never seems to play up straight away, it's always after it's been on for a bit, When it does play up, it seems like it wants to spin and select the record but the carousel doesn't move,
If you look down to the right of the turn table (kind of underneath to the right) you can see a small motor assembly (it looks like it's the motor for the carousel) and if you switch the service/on/off switch you see a small plunger/solenoid flick in as if to engage a gear or something but it doesn't do anything.

Iv'e just read this back and it seems to make sense :)

Hi Alan,

I'm in Birmingham,

I will give you a call shortly if that's ok? Myself and my partner run a tattoo shop and I have to man the phones and deal with customers whilst she's working so will phone when it's quietened down.

Cheers
