WTB: San Francisco Rush Shifter/Gear Selector
« on: July 27, 2013, 01:58:30 am »
Just got my first arcade game ever.  I have always loved SF Rush and had to have it.  It's the San Francisco Rush the Rock - Alcatraz Edition.  I do have one problem though, when selecting the manual transmission it does not detect when I put the gear selector into 3rd gear. (test/diagnostic mode does also not detect it)

It's worth noting that when I put the gear selector into 1st/2nd/4th I hear a "click" much like a normal "arcade button", but when putting it into 3rd, nothing.  I have not taken it apart, or done any other testing. (I guess in a way it could be a loose wire?)

Anyways, looking for one of these so I can replace it or find someone to repair mine or give some assistance in fixing :)  Please respond here or shoot me a PM.  Thank you!

Take the unit apart and replace the switches.  They're different than the normal arcade switches though.  Buy a whole set (4),replace them and forget about it.

I have 2 RTR's and love them.  Hope this helps

Thank you for the response! That helps a ton.  Hopefully it is an easy repair. (not sure if there is soldering involved or what I will have to do.. I'm sure it will all make sense once I crack it open)

I just ordered a security bit set (didn't have any and just now seeing they are all over this machine) and the micro-switches from the link you provided.   (thank you again for that)

Here is a video with the "no clicky action" 4th gear is a pretty weak "click" ontop of the non-functional 3rd gear... -

I'll update this thread with what I figure out.  I'm sure it's pretty normal run of the mill repair for most folks here, but being my first arcade game this is special :D

Another question I now have (more to come after this too I'm sure) is what bulbs would I get for the Music/View/Abort buttons? Looking at the diagram in the manual it says 24-8828 #658 BULB,  14V (5).  I can't seem to find that anywhere... I am guessing it's the model number and then the (5) is the quantity in the front housing?  What bulbs would I need for this?

Oh, and also I have an issue with my brake where if I press it while in a game and let off, the brake light on the car will flicker on/off for a minute before finally staying off.. I am guessing it's a pot that might need to be cleaned replaced, but don't know anything about that. (how to do it, where to get it from, etc etc)

Wow, I am usually Mr. eBay and not sure how I didn't find that... thank you.
For the brake pedal I found a similar thread for a gas pedal - http://forums.arcade-museum.com/archive/index.php/t-214040.html

So first I will try the re-calibration and see if that helps.  If not I will look into how to clean the pot, if that doesn't work replacing the pot. (something I am in no way familiar with and will have to likely do some reading on) Looks to be a 5K pot (5014-12909-00) whatever that means lol :(

Ok question remains about the brake.. and how even when lifting off it seems to "flutter" in and out of being engaged. (the car brake lights flicker in the game like its slightly being depressed)  And when in the calibration/test section it is moving around and the values are changing most of the time.  Maybe someone could explain how to clean the pot or where I could maybe get a replacement. (and what kind)

Also, I took apart the gear box and it appears the switches work fine, but instead the spring actuator is broken. (03-9377) So I might just rebuild the whole damn thing and order 4 new spring actuators (Now that I have the 4 microswitches).. hoping to find them cheap somewhere but not having much luck... where do I get these actuators?

Thanks in advance for assistance with the brakes part of things and the gear selector... those are the last pieces to get this thing rocking! :)

Ask and ye shall receive.....

Have you went into the service menu and "reset" all the values for gas, brakes, and clutch?  If so, you may need to spray contact cleaner deep in the pots before resorting to new pots...they start to add up.  I haven't had to replace mine, but I have replaced the steering pot.  If you can use the steering pot for the other pedals, you could do this:

Check around in the KLOV forums for info...

OK thank you. Ouch those little guys are spendy.. BUT just because I wanted to I ordered 4 of them to replace all of them. (at least I will have the old ones as spares... I can't imagine these break THAT often...)

I'll try and find some contact cleaner for the pot, I did reset the values in the TEST menu but that didnt seem to work... (i'll try it again just to be sure) If not I guess I will replace the pot

Thank you so much again

Ok, even after replacing the bulbs on the dash still not lighting up... is there a fuse or switch something I might have to play with?

Do the buttons work?  Those buttons have a harness connector that can get separated when you lift the green monitor shroud.  Otherwise I'm not sure why the new bulbs don't work.  There are two fuses to the right of the mainboard...you could check these.

Thank you! It was the fuse, of the two to the right of the mainboard it was the left fuse. (was blown and only half-seated)

So now that is all sorted out, good thing I got in there though and figured out how to take things apart and access things. (and I got to clean the monitor and shroud glass)

Next is the brake pot.. whether it be just cleaning it (which I read is to just drown it in contact cleaner and twist a million times) or what is more likely to happen which is replace it.

Thank you all for all the tips/links/advice.  It is extremely appreciated.  I think I found myself a new hobby. :)
