Virtua Fighter 4 to MAME
« on: July 26, 2013, 05:16:10 pm »
Hey Everyone,

I grew up with Arcades, as many of you have I imagine.. I have always wanted one of my own. I found one for $200, its virtua fighter 4 (made in 2002ish?) and uses a Naomi 2 board (whatever that means)

The cabinet comes complete and virtua fighter 4 works, takes quarters. The cabinet is not a collectors piece, its actually a standard wood cabinet with black sides, no decos.

I think this makes it a good candidate for MAME. I want to play mortal kombat, street fighter, x men, donkey kong etc... not every arcade game but some from my child hood. The cabinet is 2 player, with 3 buttons on each side, so I need to add 3 buttons to each side, the monitor is in good condition.

I have a friend that will gift me a crappy old computer to use, but is this my best option for what I want? WHERE DO I START!? I have it in my garage and feel overwhelmed haha, I live in Winnipeg, Canada

thank you for your time!
Mike

You might want to make sure that the game has a standard resolution monitor and not a medium resolution one. I know the early games in the virtua fighter series were medium resolution. Klov says Virtua Fighter 4 is standard resolution but Klov isn't always right, particularly with newer stuff.

Scratch that, I looked it up in the manual, Virtua Fighter 4 can be either standard resolution or VGA resolution. Both are easy to deal with for a mame cabinet (while medium resolution monitors are basically worthless for mame).
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

alright well that's good then? So Mame through cpu is what you guys suggest? is there certain parts I need for the cpu? should I gut the cabinet or do I wire it into the existing cables?
