Pushbuttons compatible with Nintendo VS Controller?
« on: July 25, 2013, 04:26:14 pm »
Recently I picked up a Nintendo VS Cabinet that was a DK conversion... and I'm thinking about making a few improvements.

One of the things I'm looking to replace is the push buttons... but per my poking around, I noticed that there is a diameter difference between most standard push buttons and the "Nintendo style."  It looks like the standard Nintendo buttons are  1 1/16" (~27mm) as opposed to what seems to be normal 35mm.

I plan to use this controller and it is made of metal (see http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=97618 for reference)... so I don't want to get in to a situation where I have to bore out the holes more just to fit in a new button, that would just be too much headache.

So to save me a bit of investigation, has anyone replaced the push buttons on a metal Nintendo VS Control panel? If so, are there any "non-Nintendo" alternatives with the stock holes?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome aboard, MastarArcade.

It looks like the standard Nintendo buttons are  1 1/16" (~27mm) as opposed to what seems to be normal 35mm.

The first important measurement for buttons is the mounting hole diameter.

The normal size for arcade pushbutton holes is 1 1/8" (~28mm) -- some Japanese buttons use 30mm holes.

Not sure where you got 35mm from -- sounds too large for the hole but it may be the size of the button bezel. (top of the body)  :dunno

Standard 1 1/8" Happ/IL button bezels are ~33mm.

As long as the button bezel covers the mounting hole, it will look fine.

Thanks for the response! I appreciate the info.

I took a closer look today when I got home and think I'm just going to go with the some different color Nintendo buttons from Mike's Arcade for now. Maybe later if I decide to get a bit fancier (and some more time), I'll mix it up with custom cut panel and perhaps some LED push buttons :)

So after a bit more poking around at Mike's, I don't think he has the colors I'm looking for.

Anyone else know of an alternative source for "Nintendo compatible" push buttons?

Since I asked, and had a hard time finding the info, now that I have some results. I'll post them for those in the same boat.

The Groovy Game Gear CLASSX push buttons DO fit in to the 1 1/16" diameter Nintendo control panels. No shaving down of the plastic or additional boring out of the holes was required.  ;D
