  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
For the Magstick plus users out there
« on: July 13, 2013, 12:49:58 am »
I have a couple of questions regarding these sticks and wanted a user's perspective. I have asked these questions to my supplier as well, just waiting on a response. I'm mounting them under 3/4" MDF and a layer of acrylic (thickness will be determined on shaft hight). Will I be able to to get by with the standard size ball top shaft? I haven't ordered the ball top shaft yet so I'm going by the measurements on the one that comes with the stick. I want the stick to set low like the old Nintendo and Pac-Man Cabs. Also can the ball tops be replaced? I hope they didn't put all the work into this stick and not thread the tops.

I'm using a magstick plus in my test CP and so far I like the way it feels. 8 way games might take a little getting used to, but love the 4 way play. I think the 8way issue is that I expect a longer throw and it isn't there. This cabinet is focused on 4way games mostly with a few 8way games .

Any help/input is greatly appreciated

I have these sticks. I went with the rgb balltops and shafts from paradise arcade. I had them top mounted and I thought there was way to much shaft sticking out. I want mine to fit right in the palm of my hand. If I decide to keep these, I will also be under mounting them. You are right about the short throw in 8 way. I my get different sticks.

Get the long shaft. You can always route less material, or even add a block for more material, to make the exposed shaft lower. However, you can not add shaft length. Ultimarc likes to **** you on these, making you purchase another shaft and top separately if you want a ball top. I don't understand why you can't order it like that. However, my experience from ultimarc has been very positive. Their products are very good quality.
