WHO SHOT JOHNNY ROCK
« on: June 20, 2013, 09:15:20 pm »
Hi

Does anyone remember this one? I loved it. It came out in 1991. And on a family holiday I got to play it
It was one of those laser games with film clips. It has a massive screen.

On KLOV its down as being 0 on the rare scale which runs from 100-1 100 being most seen 1 being not seen.

Has anyone seen this machine ? Did they get cannibalized for other types of games>?

Can anyone help me on this one. I would love to play it again

CJ,

I ended up buying all the American Laser Games on DVD off eBay. You can play them with an AimTrak. I paid like $10 per disc, and I use DaphneSinge to run them.

ack!  Watch out when buying those Digital Leisure games.  The old DOS versions are super low resolution and are to be avoided.
Look for the windows XP logo on the front of the box and make sure you are getting the actual product pictured.
The XP version looks good at arcade and standard def TV resolutions.

Some, but not all of the games are available on DVD which has even better video quality.

EDIT: Can't find a better picture, but this is the version I'm talking about.  The windows XP compatible logo is third from the left.

Ah ok thanks BadMouth, I have the Dos version- hence the mention of Dosbox. Oh well what about the Sega Mega-CD version ? Ill fire it up when it arrives. Be like watching Wing Commander in 95.

BM is right. I made the same mistake the first time, buying a DOS version of Mass Dog McCree. I made sure my future purchases were the XP ones.

I think I used to have this on 3D0.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

What about the DVD player versions (the ones that say PS2/ Xbox compatible.)? Has anyone figured out a gun hack for them? Would that even be possible?

It's my understanding that they work with the Daphne Singe emulator, but I haven't personally used them.
The emulator rips the video files it needs from the DVD, so I don't think the input method of the version you have matters.
I remember having to use an "installer" specific to my XP versions in order for Daphne Singe to convert the video from the originals.
You may want to make sure that file is available before buying.

I was happy with the video quality of the XP CD-ROMs, but not happy with it after Daphne Singe converted it.
So I went back to just using the PC versions as they are.  I'm running them at 1024x768 over S-Video to a CRT TV.
I haven't seen anyone else complain about the video quality using Daphne Singe, so maybe I'm just extra picky or something didn't work right.  :dunno

I have all the games except Fast Draw Showdown.  That game has not turned up for sale anywhere in the few years I've been looking for it.  I'm starting to doubt it was really released for PC.  If anyone has it, I'd like to know it really exists!

Pretty sure it does exist somewhere. This is an email I sent to Digital Leisure back in August, along with their response:

I was just wondering, if I was to buy a used copy of Fast Draw Showdown for PC, does it support the vertical monitor orientation as the arcade game did? I know the WiiWare version does not (that I could tell, at least) and I am not sure about PS3. Trying to re-create the arcade experience in an actual arcade cabinet as closely as possible.

Thanks, Tom

And the response:

Hi Tom,

Unfortunately, the retail versions rotate the image so it is displayed for
current television sets.

Best,
Chris

Here's a link to Digital Leisure's PC games:

http://www.digitalleisure.com/contents/pccdrom_games.htm

So, bottom line, it's on PS3 store and WiiWare (I have the WiiWare version) and it's on PC too (according to Digital Leisure). In other news, none of the versions support vertical screens. I wonder if anyone around here (Howard?, Sjaack?) can fix that problem. Also, Mad Dog 1 & 2, *Last Bounty Hunter, Dragon's Lair 1, 2 and Space Ace are out on Wii collection discs and PS3 PlayStation Store downloads *Last Bounty Hunter not on PS3.
