Play PC Games in Mame Cab
« on: November 12, 2003, 07:29:46 pm »
I did a quick test and loaded my old NFL Blitz PC game on my MAME Cab.  I have 2 8 way joys with 6 buttons each on my control panel.

The player 1 joy worked, but none of the buttons were mapped correctly.

Is there any info on how to do this?  I have only the CD, no instructions.  I will look to see if the CD contained the docs.  I'm sure there were no printed instructions or anything.

I remember playing the blitz game with microsoft joysticks.  Do I still have to do that?

Thanks for any info.

look for an ini or conf file probably named config

you should be able to manually remap

if you can remap the keys in the game (usually through options) that is the way to go--otherwise you will have to create a separate key config for your interface card that loads every time you play the game and restores the mame settings on exit--a .bat file could be made to do this.  what interface card re you using (i-pac, keywhiz etc)?
its better to not post and be thought a fool, then to whip out your keyboard and remove all doubt...

Yes, an Ipac.  I forgot about the remap program there.  I haven't even looked at it.  I guess it has options to make joystick 1 up be the REAL joystick 1 up?

No, it doesn't. The I-Pac only does keystrokes as far as the computer is concerned, not joysticks.

A major problem with ALOT of PC sports games is that they are just playstation ports and have limited (or no) remappability of the keys.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

The default keys for blitz is weird

Use the keyboard until you get the the screen to remap controls

Enter=start
z,x,c, is turbo, pass, jump (not sure of order off hand)

Once you get your joystick setup up restart the game, then press start on the joystick.  You can then you the joystick for navigation.  The device you push start on become the default device to navigate.

this is exactly the topic of an old thread.  It said that the EA Sports games wouldn't work with multiple players on a keyboard (or keyboard interface)
Thus, a program called Key2Joy was made to convert keystrokes into joystick functions and get around the EA Sports limitation.

To find it, search for Key2Joy.  That SHOULD get you it.
There is SO a spoon.
