rotatable tv mounts
« on: May 31, 2013, 12:02:31 pm »
I'm tossing around the idea of a pedestal control panel with a wall mounted LCD tv...probably something in the 37" to 42" size...i have no problems finding wall mounts (monoprice is awesome) but i seem to be unable to locate any that will rotate 90 degrees that support a screen that size.  (other than some that are in the $300 range)..so i figured this is the only place i could think of that people may have had a need for such an item and may know where to find one for a reasonable price.

so, any ideas?  i can get by without it if i have to, but i can't help but want to make it rotate to vertical for millipede if i can.

The other thing i thought about doing, was instead of using a mounting bracket, just mount the TV to a piece of wood, which would be mounted to a bar stool swivel, like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Trendler-Metal-Products-Swivel-Thick/dp/B0037M8GAO/ref=sr_1_2?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1370017098&sr=1-2&keywords=bar+stool+swivel#productDetails

these things are rated for hundreds of pounds, but that is in a horizontal orientation where it would be compressed...i'm worried that it may not hold up to being mounted vertically.  Opinions?

My 50" plasma is maybe 50 pounds. I bet that spinner would be fine.  Although.....if you're not going to be that far away, I don't see a need to bother turning the monitor.

I originally had a 32" TV on a rotating mount, but quickly traded it for a 47" and gave up on rotating. There just wasn't a need anymore. With a 47", the vertical height is 23.5", which is larger than the height of a 25" vertically mounted arcade monitor. This is the mount I used on the smaller TV. IT worked fine. My 47" is actually lighter than the 32, so it might have worked for it as well. I don't think it would have been as stable moving it around though. You can see from the pic that the TV was a little small to hide the mount when rotated. I would suggest going with a larger TV so you have room for the bezel artwork. I think it makes a huge difference. The 47" TV is in the second pic.
