  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Hopefully someone can help with this....And it will be a true challenge with what little I remember. I only saw this game once in an arcade when I was really young on a vacation. It was martial arts/Karate based (Pre-Street Fighter 2) It was a stand up Arcade game where you would fight various enemies. Each enemy was a 1 on 1 fight and had their own unique look. One thing that sticks out is that you could see who you would be fighting next as your present match was taking place.....I remember them being in the background either lined up or sitting down waiting to fight you...when you would beat one guy the next enemy would get up and come approach you so the next match could begin. I Think even the last guy was sitting on a chair or something in the background (Think Shao Kahn in MK2 on the throne) Basically enemies were spectators. No idea of the name or anything but it was for sure a stand up arcade game and it was pretty cool. I have literally been searching this for years with no success. Hope someone has better recall than I do.....to my credit I was maybe 8 or 9 at the time. Thanks so much guys!

Any idea what year, approximately, this was? Having said that, I gotta say, I hung in has many arcades as anybody, & I don't recall any game with that 'other fighters sitting waiting' feature. Must b a rare 1.

The only thing I could think of is KOF 98, which had teammates in the back

This sounds like a game I've been trying to identify for years.  I played it at a campground lodge in Kentucky in 1992 or so.  It looked pretty dated even then, so probably from the mid-late 80s.  It was laid out kind of like Pit Fighter, except the crowd in the background were all of the upcoming opponents.  They were squat, cute characters, like in River City Rampage/Kunio-Kun or Mighty Final Fight.  They all had different silly personalities; I remember a guy dressed like a surgeon who fought with a scalpel, and maybe a clown too.  Man, if anyone knows, I'd love to find out too.

Could it be Kageki http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=8269

I've never played it, but the screen shots on KLOV look like what you describe.

The video looks like a good match, too.

Wow, you guys are good!  That has to be it.  It doesn't look much like the memory-image I had in my head from when I was a kid, but after 20 years I would be shocked if it did.  I don't know why I remembered a surgeon character... maybe I just saw the guy in a white suit and interpreted it as a lab coat or scrubs.   I wonder if this is the game the OP was talking about too.

Your memory is just fine.

Opponent #5 (4:45 in the video) is wearing a surgical mask.
