Any one using iGPU (Intel CPU) to power there Mame build?
« on: May 24, 2013, 07:50:02 am »
Is anyone using Intel built in GPU on there CPU to power there mame system, and mainly using HLSL setitngs?.

Im looking at build a bartop cab and wondering if any of the Intel chips have enough grunt via iGPU to run mame with HLSL settings enabled, I know the i5 2500K have HD3000 chip on the CPU but not sure if this would be enough for HLSL?

In a word, yes. You'll be fine.

I have the 2500K, and it runs everything (including NFL Blitz) at 100%, including HLSL. The only exceptions I've found are multi-monitor games (Punch-Out, Darius, etc.) and I don't know if that's due to the iGPU, or Mame's implementation of HLSL-- unfortunately I also have no way to test (no room for discreet GPU in my build.)

Turn off HLSL on those games, they're 100% playable.

That said, unless you already have the 2500K on hand, why not wait a month and put a Haswell in it? LOTS of advantages for bartop build.

Would you be willing to share your HLSL settings in your config file?  I have an i3 3225 and I am having difficulty getting HLSL to work @ 100% (best I can get to is 70 or so).

I'm not running any multi monitor setups; just the vertical classics (galaga, etc.).
