Asteroids rebuild step one: resolve air circuits.
« on: May 21, 2013, 09:45:39 pm »
Have a new toy, but some reassembly required. Full cabinet stripdown and component recap.
But, starting at the power supply, I have a bit of a problem repopulating the new big blue cap.

the violet and violet/white wires from the top half of the transformer are cut. . (Close to the transformer so I didn't notice it until later)

The negative post had only two wires on it (and no screw, so considered incomplete. The positive was very stuck. Now unstuck.)

Run new wires to the new cap, new wiring and hope this ancient beast doesn't blow up?

In theory there was a power issue and they had to cut those two wires. Maybe shorting on the case, something.
No little wire bits to give me a clue, but it seems to fit the situation.

Also, this is a Ravenwood transformer, with the Atari circuit board rectifier. I have a newer style but one wire at a time.

"Air circuit"= an omission of a circuit connection  in any physical form other than air. Resistance measurement: infinity null squared.
If you order a pizza, put 1 quarter in their Galaga and the pizza's done before you are, you might be a video game junkie.. if you offer to tweak the crt , definitely.
