Led Viewing Angle?

Im looking to get some leds for my buttons for my second cab. I have been looking at 5mm 12v leds, whats the best viewing angle to get??

Not sure which ones you're comparing but I would suggest that wider is generally better in the sense that it will provide a more uniform distribution, with less or no "hot spot" compared to a more narrow cone.

Thanks for the replies guys. Have the leftover il translucent centers from my other cab. Thought I would throw some single color leds in them.

To determine the correct LED to use, measure the width of the button surface you want illuminated and the distance (button depresed) to the top of the LED.

Draw the viewing angle of the LED, mark the distance on both legs, and measure the distance between marks.

If the distance between marks is shorter than the illuminated surface diameter, it will cause a "hot spot".

The so called "straw hat" LED's have a wider angle, and might be better suited for this.
Building, collecting and playing arcade machines :)

ive also carefully filed the tops flat on standard led's to make them wider angle.
