AdvanceMenu
« on: April 25, 2013, 03:46:02 am »
Hi,

Does GroovyMame use AdvanceMenu or AdvMenu+? I'm confused. :-) I'm having trouble configuring types/favorites etc and documentation is... woeful.

Cheers,
Matt

Hi guys!

GroovyArcade uses a modified version of AdvanceMenu called "AdvmenuPlus".

Here you can see the improvements over the original version in this link. (Sorry, is from ArcadeForever Spanish forum, but is the only documentation available to date).
http://arcadeforever.forumfree.it/?t=42527183&st=525#entry533165578
This special version included in GA, adds new options in the *.rc configuration file, to create lists of favorite games, create layouts for each emulator and a lot more.

Regards.

Hi Rockman, thanks a lot for the documentation, I'll be translating it as soon as possible.
Important note: posts reporting GM issues without a log will be IGNORED.
Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.

When, and why, did this get bundled with GM?

GroovyArcade, not GroovyMame.

GroovyMame is the emulator.  GroovyArcade is the Linux distribution including GroovyMame and AdvanceMenuPlus.

Well, several things --

* The selection of good frontends for Linux is more limited.
* AdvMENUPlus has support for 15khz monitors built into it.
* AdvMENUPlus also has support inbuilt for the various emulators that are included in GroovyArcade.
* AdvMENUPlus generates ROMlists with a minimum of intervention -- i.e. none -- which is important for a distribution that can be booted or played from LiveCD in addition to from a hard disk.  For example, Cabrio is a much slicker front end, but generating ROMlists for it is nontrivial.

Mmmmm.... may I ask... WHY NOT?

AdvMENU is simple and does the job. I *think* I suggested it to Chris at the time he was building the first versions of the live-cd, he was using WahCade and had some issues configuring it.
