JPAC pissing me off!!! Input problems...
« on: April 21, 2013, 05:01:49 pm »
About six months ago I picked up a JPAC and after a few minor issues got it working great.  FWD six months and I have finally finished my DK cabinet and I got everything hooked up.  Wired in a JAMMA harness, got it synced up put in my NEO GEO 1 Slot MVS to check out all of the inputs.  Everything checks out, it plays just fine and all of the inputs work.

Hook up the JPAC, it syncs up just fine, load up Notepad and I do not have any inputs.  It is not translating anything to key presses.  I have checked all of the grounds and they are fine, I have continuity all of the way through the jamma harness from the last button on the chain, so it isn't that.  All of the buttons are wired where they need to go.  Getting frustrated.

Any ideas?

Use a short wire to jumper and test the inputs wired directly to the ground of the j-PAC

Ya, did that as well, still not working.  I gave up.  I have a 48 Button USB game controller board from another project that I wasn't using, so I will just use it and use Xpadder to map the buttons to keys.  I would have like to keep the JAMMA intact for testing PCB's.  I think I will make a molex connection that will go to both.

Seeing that you plugged in your neo geo card OK do you have power on the jamma harness?   The jpac gets its power via the USB or PS2 connection and the arcade power supply is not usually used.

Quote from Ultimarc

"But my JAMMA cabinet DOES have a power supply.

Most cabinet power supplies will not function unless a game board is connected, owing to insufficient load. It is best to remove the power supply completely as the J-PAC does not need any power. All power comes from the keyboard or USB interface. The monitor power must be left as it is though. DO NOT remove the monitor isolating transformer if one is fitted."

never had any issues with the power when i had it in my dynamo cabinet.   However, I did unhook the power and still nothing.

Sounds like your Jpac may have died.

as long as the sync is still working I am ok.  However, I think my motherboard just went on my computer, so that may have been the problem all along.  :dunno

Easy to test the JPAC with another system and a button.
