Are PacLed64 pins assigned to specific colours?
« on: April 08, 2013, 06:36:02 am »
Are the pins actually assigned to specific colours? such as 1 is red, 2 is blue, and 3 is green, or do I just pick an order for them, and make sure the entire controller is wired the same?

The  reason I ask, is becauseI was viewing the LEDblinky software that I purchased, it seems you can assign colours to buttons, such as green, which to me means that the if it was wired up wrong and I choose green I would get a different colour such as yellow.

I know the LEDWiz doesn't require specific wiring for the colors, I'd doubt Pacled would either.

The reason is that to the controller, a color LED is just 3 individual LEDS, each of which can have variable intensity.

It's up to the software you use to map which output is which color. LEDBlinky does this quite nicely. Once you gang your three color outputs together, the software then displays them as if they were a single unit, even though internally, they're still just 3 individual LEDs.

But as far as specific order goes, no, there's not any requirement for that. To keep your sanity, though, I'd suggest picking an order and sticking with it throughout the wiring.

You wouldn't get yellow if you wired it up "wrong" because yellow is a combination of red and green, you might get either red or blue though. But the very first step in setting up LEDBlinky is assisgning your controller outputs. You go through each pin one at a time, when you select a pin you assign that pin a color and button input in LEDBlinky (based on what LED lights up when that pin is selected). Wiring to the controller really doesn't matter, aside from power and ground.

Ok, great. I didn't want to get everything wired up, just to find out later that I should have done it differently, and be forced to rip it apart and start again.
