Rowe WRE Wallbox power transformer voltage and connections
« on: April 08, 2013, 01:21:20 am »
Hello there...

Does anyone have any info on what the power connections are for a Rowe WRE Wallbox?  I have one, but need the transformer to power it. Inside the unit are connections for AC and AC Common.  I've heard that a 28 vac transformer will work.  Is that true?

Thanks much... John

Hello John,

The connections are as you say AC, AC Common, Signal and AC Control.

Ideally you need to use a PL10B transformer that has a relay connected to the transformer for the AC control feature. This is used so that a second pulse train can not come through whilst the first is in duration. This was required for multiple wallbox installation.

In the uk we use 30 volt or 50 volt tapped transformers mainly for full view wallboxes which were made to work at 28 to 30 volts or on 50 volts.

In your WRE wallbox is a transformer to operate the lower voltage cabinet lighting.
Use a minimum of 1.5mm cable for the AC the signal and AC control can be thinner cable. Most sites suffered from undersized multicore installations because of volt drop to the wallboxes. Good installers used a separate ac cable or used a multicore that comprised of two larger cores and then several data cables.

Regards
Alan
