Street Fighter II Bartop (first build)
« on: April 04, 2013, 04:24:57 pm »
Hello all,

I would like to show off the start of my first build...

As many I grew with SFII and need one at  the house..

My design is based on the original SFII Cab. I scaled it down so that it measures H-D-W 24" x 16" x 22".
Looking at most other bartops this one will be slightly wider but think it will allow for better 2player play.

I'm planning on making it an exact replica of the original.. From the side art down to the control panel.
I attached an original for perspective of shape and future look  ;)

Cab:
1/2" mdf
3/4" strips for the supports.
1" screws

PC Components:
(Will add when get home)

Hardware:
Ordered HAPP control set. (Will detail when arrives)

I welcome any suggestions or constructive criticism of the build..

As the build progress, I will continue updating for anyone interested.

Edit: Sketchup image added..

My design is based on the original SFII Cab.
I didn't think there was such a thing...

A generic  Dynamo cabinet is as original as I can think.. Almost all that I have seen used them...

So I'd call it original... But you're correct. There wasn't a specialty cab designed or built for SF2

You're off to a good start, man. Looking forward to seeing this project.

Which character would you say is your favorite?

I've always favored Guile and Chung Lee. How about yours?

I made a similar mini version a few months back.  ;D

I too left out the horizontal area just above the marquee. You may find out that you might have visual issues with a marquee that high though. You will either have to trim the marquee area back some or set the bartop pretty high to compensate.

Guile!?!

Man, I hate whenever I end up fighting Guile in the later rounds, it usually results in a rage quit. That flash kick is a ---smurfette---. I usually play as Ken then switch to Chun-Li or M. Bison when I get stuck.

I'm pretty mean with Bison too.... That "flying/sliding trip" is a beast..

Your SFII cab looks great.. Where did you get the images for your bezel artwork?

Admittedly I missed the horizontal part on the first go-around. I noticed I missed it yesterday and ended up cutting it.

I have thought about the viewing angle and have yet to determine how big of an issue it will be... I will have to see what height the unit will sit on the bar/table before I will know..
Hopefully not to bad..

I spent hours and hours searching for good images before stumbling across Street Fighter Media....
When I use Google Images, search for "Streetfighter characters" and set the size to "larger than 8 MP" I get results like these:

http://images.wikia.com/streetfighter/images/4/48/Chun_Li.jpg

You need these kind of resolutions to get your artwork printed decently...

For some reason Balrog isn't on that site, not that I can see anyway. I can't remember if he was on there before or not. But searching for Super Street Fighter 2 X Revival Balrog brings up this image
www.videogamesartwork.com/sites/default/files/styles/image_node/public/images/image/Super_Street_Fighter_II_X_Revival_Art_M_Bison_1.jpg?itok=6Kj9GB6d
which is from the same art set.

The individual images on that site are pretty damn good quality.

There's lots of good stuff there.

If i remember correctly, the ones used on your bezel are some scans from the japanese champion edition manual. Not 100% sure though

Wow! Thanks guys...  :applaud:
I'll get to work

Look what came in the mail....

I may add this in the background. Keep it hidden and use some type of
macro with a sequence of buttons to start game. I haven't played it yet so we'll see if i add it to cade.

Edit::

I found my artwork. Now I just need to find someone to do it for a reasonable price.
On a side note I am at the end of building a "Word Clock" and the quotes I have been getting for a small piece of vinyl has been sooooooooooo.......... high.

Well see art below

Street Fighter IV is great, maybe my favorite.  It's a toss-up between that and 3rd Strike, so both are recommened.

I hope you can download some updates for Super Street IV Arcade Edition 2012 though (2013 coming soon).  Playing the old vanilla version now is seriously weak in comparison.  It's not as well balanced and half the characters are missing.

I have two of the full sized Dynamos you based your design on and like how you translated it to bartop.  Subscribed!
I hope you dig the KADE too
