ArcadeVGA 3000 and UEFI BIOSes?
« on: April 04, 2013, 12:13:07 pm »
I have in my hands an ArcadeVGA 3000, installed in an AMD Llano A8 APU based system.

I appear to be having issues related to UEFI -- basically, UEFI seems to want to force the screen into a higher resolution than the initial ArcadeVGA 3000 15khz mode.  At this point, the ArcadeVGA seems to stay in 31.5khz and above mode, which makes it not work via the J-PAC hooked up to my Nanao 2931.

Has anyone else gotten an ArcadeVGA setup working with a recent UEFI BIOS that seems to force the resolution?

Once you boot into windows you should get 15k as Andy's driver should take over from EFI. You sure you got the windows driver installed correctly and selected 640x480i?

JoeB,

Thanks for the suggestion -- I'm using GroovyArcade.  It turns out that it was partially a confluence of several things:

  • UEFI wanting a higher resolution on boot -- and wanting a higher resolution than available at 15khz
  • The GRUB boot splash screen using a higher default resolution because that's what the EFI BIOS set up
  • The newer ArcadeVGA 3000 cards *may* have DVI-I instead of VGA output at the card connector level
  • This causes selecting VGA outputs from the GRUB menu to not work properly
  • The JPAC JAMMA video connector not working well with 31.5khz -- or the Nanao 2931 not working well with 31.5khz signals via the JAMMA connector

I will be investigating in more detail to see what's happening here.

Modified: Added note about JAMMA video connector.
