Paid to pick up games?!?!
« on: March 31, 2013, 10:21:39 am »
Hello all. Long time lurker. I am a foreclosure contractor. I clean, inspect, and maintain foreclosed homes. Last week I got a work order to go clean the inside of a house halfway between Winnemuca and Oravada Nevada (about 200 miles east o Reno). This area is also known to some a BFE. So I show up and find black mold growing three feet up the walls inside. That makes the place uninhabitable. But out in the garage is three arcade lined against the outside wall! Centipede, Super Contra (dedicated), and Namco Classic Collection Vol 1 (in a Burgertime cab). Well, my job is to remove all the old items, so in my truck they went. Took them home, cleaned them up, and tested voltages. Everything tested out fine, so I plugged them in. For the first time I got paid to pick up working games! All I needed to do was clean up controls, but they all went into my arcade with no work! Here's some pics!

Probably not anytime soon. I have a Defender, DK cocktail, two cocktail pins, and a Mr Viking in the garage all in different stages of restoration. Plus it's the only "copy" of Galaga I have right now. Although the artwork is pretty bitchin on Burgertime.

Yea, but it's a Burgertime, it should move to the front of the line.

The Burgertime deconversion is a money pit. You can buy a restored one for less than it costs to deconvert one.

Yea, but it's a Burgertime, it should move to the front of the line.

Very cool find, but...your job is to "remove all old items" and you bring a pickup truck?

What are you normally suppose to do with the items that you remove?  Was there a dumpter delivered to the driveway, but you were able to save the machines?

Normally I would order a roll of dumpster. But at this house (on ten acres btw) someone had removed the box off an old U-Haul truck and was using it as a storage shed. Now this "storage shed" was half full of VHS and printed porn (grossest hoarder collection I've come across), so we loaded most of the larger items from the house there.

Plus I already had pictures of the place, so I knew I would only need my truck. After five years of doing this, I've got making money off it down to a science.
