Damn you Craig's List.... OK now I forgive you
« on: March 31, 2013, 12:33:17 am »
Found an ad posted at 10:30 last Thursday evening. Original Donkey Kong cabinet, hasn't worked for ten years, never got around to fixing it, come take it away for $100. No phone number just an email and a street, no number.

I responded 7 hrs after the posting at 5am when I checked my alerts. After three emails to the guy he finally responded today saying he had been swamped with email. So he gave it to the first person he heard from, said many people had offered him much more but he didn't want to be a dick so stuck to his $100 for the first responder.

Kudos to the guy for being a solid seller but I'm so bummed I missed out on a $100 all original DK :-[

Yeah I just missed out on one myself.  It's dog-eat-dog on CL, haha.

It's funny that on CL things'll go quick (usually - unless you're in the sticks), but someone offers something here and it's a toss-up.

If you responded to a $100 Donkey Kong 7 hours after it was posted then you were probably number 50 or 60 in line to get it. Pickups like that you generally have to respond in minutes after posting and be ready to leave in minutes to go get it.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

There was a guy around here who had a Kangaroo on CL for a long time. I think he started at like $500 and I didn't even think about it cause I don't care much for the game.
One day months later, a guy that I repair games for texts me to  see if I was gonna buy the $50 kangaroo on CL.
It turned out the guy had lowered the price I few times and at $50 I could buy it and flip it but it had gone quick and I was too late.

There is a working Crystal Castles on my local CL for 300 right now.  I'm sure I could talk him down to 200 but I am not sure if I will go for it.  The machine actually looks to be in decent shape....but I've told myself time and time again to make my first dedicated cab a Ms. Pacman.  Not easy to find those around my neck of the woods though.

Well, my chance came around at another cab, not as cheap but in good shape, again with a dead monitor, picking it up tonight, pics here...

I can give you a good recapped chassis for that monitor for $125 shipped. Assuming it still has a sanyo 20ez in it.

I remember first seeing Kangaroo in the arcade around when it came out. Except for the music (which I've grown to enjoy) I thought the game was cool. Still do. If I was collecting, I'd probably pay $300.

I have hard time getting into kangaroo.
I think I have a deep seated hatred for it because when I was a young teen I was playing it on Atari with a 13" b&w tv.
I was so pissed that I couldn't clear a board that I punched the tv and it stopped working.
I didn't break the glass mind you but man that hurt my hand.

So it turned out my seller was Kalan from klov who showed me around his very impressive collection. A lot of great titles in nice condition.

Very happy with this, thanks Kalan

Nice rare Copyright Nintendo original CP with very nice original buttons

Yeah, just let me know. Right now I have a 20EZ being totally wasted in a Trivia Game that doesn't need that kind of monitor (and actually has some sort of TTL inversion setup soldering into the monitor cable just to use it), and I have 15 or 20 monitors I could drop into the trivia instead.

Thanks I'll keep that in mind when I look it over and see what's going on with it.
