  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Hey , I just got this, its what is called a "midget" cab in Greece. Its my first cab and kind of a mess.
It has 3 buttons per player but only the 1st player works. The game board in it is some sort of Tetris bootleg i think. And the actual board looks younger then it should.
I need to figure out how to set this up to play games like Street Fighter  (6 buttons) and in general, i need to figure out what the hell is this thing.
The connectors to the game board seem that they have been replaced with new ones as the old cables are visibly old.
Since this is my first contact owning an arcade cabinet (long time console game collector) I did some research on the internet and found out about the 6 button harness stuff that is being sold online.
I have no experience as an electrician BUT i do have a great deal of common sense, so i can figure some things out if pointed to the right direction.
Here are some pics.
I want to know what I can do with this, and what sort of pcb does it take, bubble bobble to tekken?

Thanks in advance, note that there are not that many people in Greece that know about this stuff so the internet might be my best bet so far.

From what I can see in the pictures, only some of those buttons are even wired up, and only a few directions are even wired up.  Don't feel bad, it looks like the person that wired up that control panel didn't understand wiring all that much either.  It looks like they used some random bits of wire to wire up their (new to them) bootleg Tetris board. This probably wasn't the first time they had upgraded their game board judging by the extra buttons, extra PCB mounting holes, and missing wires.
If you are wanting to play Street Fighter, you are going to need to make a new control panel and since you only have half the number of buttons needed (6 of the 14), you may as well get some new ones anyway, you can get some cheap sets around with 2 8-ways and 12 buttons (you could re-use 2 of your old buttons for player 1 and 2 start buttons if you had to).

If you plan on buying a SF board to use in it, you can probably find a schematic that will show you how to wire up all those new needed buttons and joysticks, but the monitor and power supply will be the hardest to wire up, maybe the owner of an SF can give some insight there.

Hey MacGyver thanks' for the info.
Yea it seemed to me too that there is some gremlin work at bay with this one.
I figure out that i'll get one of these http://www.jammaboards.com/store/jamma-full-cabinet-wiring-harness-loom-jamma-h1.html and wire it up with a new set of buttons.
I need to ask you another thing too, been looking at it and there is another pin plug that moves from the game and goes to another power supply.

I see that other game boards don't have the same extra input on the side. Any ideas on what is it?
Also, (i got the machine yesterday) by looking at it again (no arcade experience what so ever) i figured out that the old parts of the cab (right side) is pretty much the control of the screen?
So if the game board is the master of the graphics and all, does that mean that any jamma pcb will connect? (as long as the control button configure is there)
Can i use one of these too? http://www.ebay.com/itm/STREET-FIGHTER-ALPHA-JAMMA-CAPCOM-CPS2-CPS-II-CARTRIDGE-BLUE-PCB-1902-/171010386394?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27d10369da
What's up with games in general?
I always wanted a arcade game library and now that i got one i am determined to make it work. I'm not too keen on the "turn it into mame" approach right now i'd rather have a cab with a few games than scoop the insides out and fit a windows mame emu.
So yea, any help on the above game/setup q's really appreciated guys.
I gotta take this "midget" back on a road to glory!
