I thought that Mala came with the default exit of Player 1 + Player 2 , however that is not working for me. I am using a jpac. Do I need to be using something like autohotkey for this button combination to work or is their another way?

If I recall correctly Player 1 + Player 2 on the  Jpac sends the  "Esc" (Escape) key. So set the Escape key to exit in Mala and it should work.

Do you know if this is true even if the Jpac is connected only through the jamma connector rather than being wired through he individual input terminals on the Jpac?

The keys should behave the same.

To test for the escape key open Notepad and drop down the File menu.

Pressing Escape will close the menu.
