Experiene with Happ Heavy Springs
« on: November 07, 2003, 08:53:28 am »
Hi Guys,

Any of your buy heavy springs with your happ ultimates, or competitions.

How did you like them.  There is this rumor that they wear the joystick faster.  Can any one verify this, if so how does it wear the joystick?  Does the spring loose it's strength, or does the joystick implode, instantaneously combust???  :-X

Just wondering.

What's your take?

Cheers,
Aricade

Don't know how it wears, but I put the heavier springs in my Ultimates and it kinda made my hand hurt after a long period of playing, I ended up switching back to the stock spring.

I think that for desktop controls, the soft is better but for an arcade cab, you can go with a heavy.

The thing is that you'll often fight the spring too much and overpower a desktop controller. In a Cab, you can put your body into it and tend to rotate around with others. In your lap, you can play for hours and it gets tiring.

IMHO but to each their own...

A heavier spring makes some parts rub against each other harder, causing it to wear faster.  The parts would wear anyway, it's just a little faster.

Personally, I like the standard springs for the comp and super on my normal stand alone CPs.  However, when I hacked taller and heavier trigger&thumb handles onto my comps, I had to switch to the heavier springs to compensate for the heavier sticks.  I can image the the steal replacement sticks, and the extra long sticks replacement sticks, also needing the heavy spring.

(I also like the point armad brought up.)

Mostly though, it's how you want it to feel.
