Silver Strike Bowling shows NO SIGNAL on monitor
« on: March 09, 2013, 12:39:42 pm »
I picked up another Silver Strike Bowling last night and when I powered it up this morning everything seemed fine.  It was left in attract mode for about 15 minutes without any issues.  When I started playing the game however on the second trackball roll the Nighthawk computer shut off.  The monitor stayed on and displayed (NO SIGNAL).

I took the Nighthawk out and brought it inside and it would not power up.  I suspected a bad power supply and replaced it (from 250 watts to 300 watts).  When I tried to power it up again the green light turned on the mother board but the fans did not start to spin.  I took the mother board battery out and placed it back in to see if it would reset anything and then the Nighthawk powered up.  The problem is that even though everything seems to be powered properly I am still left with the NO SIGNAL on the monitor.

Any ideas as to why this is happening?  Could the video card have gone bad when the system shut down for some reason?  Any ideas would be appreciated!

***UPDATE***

I went in and disconnected the graphics card and hooked an LCD up to the on board VGA port and was able to get a screen.  After that I turned off the power and removed and reinserted the video card and hooked up the monitor to it and it seems to be working for now.  Wonder why this happened?

Well, tried to turn it on again and getting NO SIGNAL.  So back to square one.  I'm wondering if it's the video card for some reason?

I tried another monitor and still received NO SIGNAL.  It's funny because if I remove the battery from the motherboard for 20 minutes or so and put it back in it will occasionally boot to the IT screen.  But if I turn it off for a few minutes and turn it back on...NO SIGNAL.  I replaced that battery with a new one but it was sitting in cold weather so I'm wondering if it drained it somehow.  So you say ANY video card will work?  I thought the Nighthawks were picky on hardware, no?

Sorry to necro this thread. I just picked up a SSB 09 and am having a similar issue. Stpcore, were you able to resolve this? did it need a new video card?

Man, I don't remember what I did to get that one going.  I've owned 9 or 10 Silver Strikes over the past few years and about half of them had little issues.  I do have spare video cards for the Silver Strikes.  If you want I can ship one to you and you can see if that clears up your issue.  Is your only problem the "NO SIGNAL"?  Did you try to connect it to a VGA input on a monitor to see if you get a pic (not sure if you are using the JAMMA for video or not)?

Well, I haven't done much troubleshooting yet, I only picked it up on Saturday. Just no signal going to the monitor. Everything else sounds like it is booting. The Monitor is plugged in directly from the VGA cable coming out of the video card. I have yet to plug in another monitor, but the weird thing is that when doing my first troubleshooting, I found that if I unplugged the VGA cable, powered it up, then powered down and plugged the VGA cable back in, I would get a signal again. Almost like it needed a change in signal to get it to go. Your issue sounded like it could be the same thing. I'll start by giving a second monitor a go and see from there.

Thanks for the offer on the video card. I might take you up on your offer if it is needed. I might also be asking for a quote on some art  (If I can finish it in adobe soon), so maybe we can work something out for both in one swoop.

I had a problem like this with my SSB 07. Mine would power on, run but no video. I ended up swapping ps's. Seems to be working fine now. Not to hijack a hijack, I am also looking for some artwork. Kinda like that ultra arcade art.
