MaLa Text Options For Controls.....2 way, 4 way, etc.... How To/Where To Find

I know this is just me looking in the wrong place, doing something wrong.
I'd like to display on a layout the controls used, be in 2way, 4 way, 8 way joystick, etc.
How/where do I enable this.

To my knowledge, it's not possible.

You could make the 8-way image part of the background and then make 2 and 4 way images named after the roms that would be displayed in front of the 8-way.
Not quick, but there aren't that many 2 and 4 way games.

Might just be what you're looking for.
I don't know if the value it gives will say 4-way or just "joystick"

Thanks Bad Mouth, thats what I have set and what I thought.
I've tried scrolling, I see "JOYSTICK" but nothing yet showing 4 way/8way.
Lemme run it over DK and see what it says

Just skimmed my gameslist, and as noted it will display JOYSTICK, but be it 2/4/8 way is not shown.
I'd suspect this is more a MAME thing as opposed to MALA.

Gotta just again profess my love for MaLa, I've never taken the time to tweak all of the options, but so cool using buttons on the control panel to jump a letter, switch orientation, etc.

I really must do this on my cabinets.

Meant to add, in the Nanocade layouts you can see an example of the "joy2way."
However when I go to Galaxian as shown it just shows "joy."
I made sure I was on the exact same game, even opened the layout mll file and copied the text lines so I could input  them exactly as they were.

Are you talking about the text I have at the very bottom of my layout? If so you need to have this http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/board,45.0.html in your mame folder and then the location defined in mala under the additional tab. Refresh your main game list (this is a must if it is the first time defining the controls.ini). Go into mala config/game lists tab/ and in the lower right hit the "update games meta data in all lists" button (this updates the control data to your already established custom game lists so the layout will know what to display). In the layout editor create text object and in the properties window clear the pattern field if there is text already/hit patterns arrow/controls/control. I would say that the controls dat is about 85% complete, and there have been a couple that I have added myself that weren't included to my own file.
