I am working with a guy who has a surplus of this stuff he's trying to get rid of.  He is looking at shipping rates w/i the U.S. only at this time.

$20.00 a sheet with a deeper discount for requests of 5 sheets or more.....

If your near Sacramento, California he offers local Pick-up.  I hope to give him incentive to ship, as this stuff is gold to us builders on the forum...

I will post more as I found out, just wanted to see if there is any interest.....

4X8 sheets of 1/32 Black Laminate - $20.00 a sheet, less for 5+ sheets

Curious about shipping costs, I live in Austin, TX. Also about how it gets shipped?  I assume they role it up? Maybe boxed? Let us know.

Thanks

Yes it will be rolled, and he said its pretty light...

I'm curious about shipping as well, cabinetparts.com ships 5 pieces out for about 50.00 in box....

I got mixed quotes, based on the sizes and weight, he was gonna take 5 pieces, roll it up and and wrap in cardboard and take to USPS and see what they quoted him.

The girth should be about 15" and the length no longer than about 50".....

So hopefully the quote is reasonable....

The code on the back is

2969660090 c958 NSF35 FORMICA V0744 S1 made in Canada.

One thing I found out is NSF35 means it's food prep certified, so it must be pretty durable...

Ok folks here's the deal.....

I'm in Texas, and he's shipping me out 5 sheets for 150.00, that's a hell of a deal...the shipping may vary for each receiving state but not much.

UPS quotes $30.00 (varies slighty per receiving state) for 1 sheet plus $10-15 for each additional sheet.

So for the onesy twosey orders his price is 30.00 a sheet plus shipping.  Still at 60.00 shipped your below retail...

The best deal is the 5 sheets i think, in this hobby you can always use some laminate....

PM me for his contact info, if your serious about an order....

That's a great deal but this would be why,

ABS, But Laminate?
This is an ABS plastic sheeting, NOT a counter top laminate. It lacks the hardness and stiffness of counter top laminates, but it is easier to trim and glue. It is designed for making boxes. You may want to spend more for the more durable counter top stuff, or not, depending on you needs.

He's selling counter top grade standard laminate, more durable, and probably heavier, so your getting a better quality laminate that retails between $50 - $ 75.00 a sheet.  This is food prep grade, so just think off all the scratching scraping cutting is expected to happen on this stuff.

Most guys buy this stuff to add durability to the sides of the cabs so it stays nice...If your using as a flat surface just cover up with side art, your suggestion would probably suffice...

Also keep in mind that's business, so they probably get massive discounted rates due to volume, this is guy doesn't normally ship this stuff out, so UPS is going to gauge him as they have no idea what kind of volume he will have.  So those arent his rates, that UPS's rates for the normal consumer.

Regardless, my 5 sheets on the way for 150.00, so we will see how it goes....

I'll post photos and writeup of the quality when my shipment arrives....

I am keeping that link though, that is good deal thanks for sharing....

Thanks for pointing that out to me on the material.

Still learning :)

I saw a post that someone used this stuff all the time so I bookmarked. Now I see that it is ABS and not laminate

$150 shipped for the 5 is a pretty good deal but at $60 for a single sheet you should be able to do better locally at a cabinet maker, countertop maker, or Hardware supply (ie. Home depot has Wilsonart 4x8 panels that can be special ordered for pick up at $42 - http://www.homedepot.com/p/t/203592675?catalogId=14146&langId=-1&storeId=10051&superSkuId=202723485&N=5yc1vZc3b5&R=203592675#.UToPGVc2GTY ) - The shipping cost on items like this always kills the pricing if you can find it locally where they ship to the store in bulk or along with a full truck of deliveries heading to the store so the shipping cost is distributed out on all the items.

Still always nice to have another option to consider !

I agree, only issue is finding it.  Click the check stock and you'll see what i mean...

Not all home depots carry the stuff in house, if they do your lucky.  What your not factoring in is those home depots that dont carry it in house and you have to custom order it.  Tack on 30.00 for the custom order and that 40.00 sheet is now 75.00.  I live 2 streets from a home depot, and they told me most HD's stopped stocking laminate, and went to custom orders due to the lack of comsumer demand.

So for those HD's that have it, lucky dogs......I agree local pick up is always good, but even at a local lumber yard, they charge 75.00 a sheet for pickup. So they know the price point....

Hello All,

Good news, USPS ships this stuff out.  He wasn't sure they would due to size...

The cool part is they use the DIM method for items this size.

In a nutshell they have a min charge for shipping an item of this size due to the dimensions.

So he gave me an extra sheet for helping him out.....So that makes 6 sheets $140.00 shipped to Texas, for those concerned about shipping rates....

I let the $10.00 ride as he was not expecting to deal with shipping this stuff out.  Now that he knows the prices and the process, he's willing to ship more out....

The minimum shipping is $30.00, so 1 sheet is probably not the best way, but 60.00 shipped isnt bad if no one has is local.

The shipping is in your favor when when you order more than a sheet and better at 5+ sheets.

Keep in mind the price per sheet gets lower if you buy over 5 sheets....

This is how he packed it, and gave me tracking.....weight around 50lbs.

He's really cool, and he'd rather someone use it than sit up in his shop.  He will work deals based on volume....

Hi everyone,

I am looking to build a MAME arcade and not sure what this is for but I am located in Sacramento so I would be able to pick this up at this price. This is just to add durability to the cabinet correct? Would I be able to add side art to this? If so, is this typically done? Just starting out the process of building a MAME. Thanks.

For anyone else that doesn't know what this stuff is used for see below....

It makes this

Look like this

This is the alternative to painting your cab, some folks do inside and outside.  You will need about 5 sheets to do your entire cab.

Even though it's overkill, if your doing sideart this gives you a nice smooth surface to lay your graphic on.

Here's a tut on installation.....

ok folks,

I got my order in......

Wrapped nicely....

The material looks great and will be perfect for my bartops....

Now USPS f'd and dropped the package on the edges, cause on onside, the was a 1 inch crack in all 6 sheets, doesnt matter to me though as im doing bartops.

No big deal for full size cabs either as that part would get trimmed off.

Other than the cracks on the pieces, this was well worth it....I will be ordering more in the future if he has it.....

PM me for the guys contact info if interested....

Man this guy is awesome.....

I sent photos of the damage, he's sending me out new sheets at no extra charge....

He apologized even though wasn't his fault, is going to look into more protective shipping method, and will mark package as fragile.

I'm going to try this stuff out tomorrow on a bartop side, will post photos when done....

thank you, super nice guy.  i'm getting 4 sheets for $60!  i thought about driving out there but at a 230 mile round trip, his $35 shipping quote is cheaper then the gas i'd be spending.

he is going to send me some pics tomorrow of the different colors he has and i'll be posting here in case anyone is interested.

Before.......BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

After...... :applaud: :applaud: :applaud: :applaud:

FYI,

This was my first application of this stuff....A few notes...

  • Cutting this stuff to size is harder than I thought, a full sheet tears really easy on the edges, so I was murdering my first sheet on the table saw.  This was ok though as my sides are small and I flush cut the edges...
  • IF you have a large table saw, it cuts like butter, just make sure you either have something to support the hanging sheet or a helper
  • For those using this on full cab just be extra careful up until you apply it to the machine, once its on there, then it get's its super strength.
  • I picked up a j-roller at Rockler for about 17.00
  • I used 3m 98 contact spray contact cement, although i've been told loctite 300 does the same job and the can its 4.00 cheaper

I am super happy with the results, I can do both sides of 2 bartops on one sheet, which is awesome.

Hope this helps anyone that was on the bridge or skeptical about buying.....

Wouldn't you just cut it with a router and flush-trim bit or something?

That's an option as well, you could flush cut against a 2 x 4.

I would suggest getting a smaller laminate cutter, that can be used with one hand to do the job.

Once I got the rough cuts done, i used my regular router to flush cut the final, turned out nice.....

Yes these are 1/32, the 1/16 version is more expensive.

Also keep in mind if your using 5/8 mdf you you need 3/4 t-molding...

1/32 is thinner so no need to get the wider  molding.

I asked about this and international shipping for the size and weight, is pushing 250.00 to 300.00.

International shipping has sky rocketed here as of late, so the answer is yes if your willing to put up the funds to have it shipped there.

If you can't find the stuff in your area, then i would go for a bulk order to make it worth your while, he's gotten really good at packing this stuff nicely so theres no damage to the material.
