Adding buttons to existing control panel which already has holes
« on: February 26, 2013, 01:57:45 am »
I would like to add a couple buttons to my existing control panel. I'd like a six-button street fighter II layout. And my current layout is four buttons. Seems simple enough to just add a couple holes, but when flipping my panel, I saw that there's already a hole drilled for a fifth button (Mortal Kombat style). It's right in the center of where I'd like the other two buttons to go.

Anything clever I can do to work around this?

I had a similar problem once. I just went ahead and drilled the two new holes even though they overlapped with the old. The holes were still probably 75 percent complete and held the buttons in fine. It was a pain to try and line them up though.

I would drill a pattern of the spacing in 3/4 wood then clamp the wood to the cp to drill. Drill with a drill press if possible.  Then drill a thin shim with the same spacing. When you put the buttons in I would put the thin shim under them as added stability.
