TurboTwist 2
« on: February 24, 2013, 09:27:57 pm »
I bought a TT2 with the Energy Storage Cylinder and was wondering if anyone had removed the cylinder. With the cylinder, it seems a bit too long fror my control panel and I am curious to see if removing it is a possibility.

You can remove it.  You just need to use an allen key to loosen the allen nut on the side.

I'm pretty sure RandyT will chime in at some point, but to my knowledge all it does it prolongs duration of the spin. I think with cylinder it feels more like Tempest, and without more like Arkanoid spinner

^^^This.

But you should probably try it first to be sure.  If you are installing into 3/4" panel with an overlay, it only requires a couple of inches below that.  A panel would have to be pretty shallow not to be able to accommodate it.

If it turns out that it is too long for your panel, but you like the feel it has, then I recommend one of the TokenTop or Designer Series Stainless knobs.   I don't know which knob you ordered, but if you use one of these, you wouldn't miss the ESC.  Also, if the panel is used on a cab, but there is a bottom on it for some reason, a well placed hole will fix it as well.

I am using the weighted "Tron" knob instead of a cylinder and it feels perfect for me. Just enough momentum but not too much to make it annoying.
