Some LED-Wiz questions...
« on: February 18, 2013, 02:44:15 pm »
Afternoon everyone!

Before I start, I'm very new to LED-Wiz and just picked up my first unit so any detailed explanations on my questions are greatly appreciated and thank you very much before hand.

What I'm trying to accomplish: 25 inces of RGB LED's fading in and out to the volume of music playing from a PC (.mp3 file on loop). The LED's are RGB 5050 12V in TAPE/STRIP form. One single strip is all I need @ 25 inches. I'll be controlling the effects using LEDBlinky which I'll need some simple help on since I'm also very new to that.

I literally want the PC to, on boot, auto launch LEDBlinky and the .mp3 file so that once the PC powers on and boots the lights are working.

The lights will be controlled by a very slim form, HTPC running windows 7. This PC is also running the game I'm making.

Questions I have now is:

Q). Can LEDWiz handle the tape/strip RGB LEDs?
Q). I know tape LEDs are setup with resistors already in place. If LED-Wiz can handle the tape LED's... will I still need any additional resistors?
Q). I'm very new to configuring LEDBlinky even though I'm sure it's fairly easy to use. Is there anything special I need to use when using these types of LEDs?
Q). The computer I'm using has an external power supply (very small form). For using the 12v LED's, what's the best external power supply to use? Can I use a power supply from like a wireless router?

That should be it for now guys. I'm sure I'll have more questions... haha. Thank you for ALL your help.

Yes. Check out the Two-Headed Beast in my signature.

Wherever you can get 12V with the appropriate amperage rating for your LED strips will work.
