CPWizard Setup or Winipac Setup?
« on: February 17, 2013, 03:56:20 pm »
Hey everyone... Just looking for something to show what each button does at game start, or pause, or whatever...

I just set up my layout and labels in CPWizard, but don't know what to do from there, and how to set it up with MALA?  Is there a how-to somewhere?

Also, thought I read somewhere that you could do the same with the Winipac software.  I also have my layout and keys mapped correctly in it as well if there is a way to do the same thing without using CPWizard.

Any help?

are you asking about showing the original control panel (theres a dedicated window box in the layout manager for that you just need the pics) for each machine or which buttons on your cab does what on yours? if its the second i`m going to be attempting it soon with a pic of my control panel in my layout and figuring out how to sort out the variables for showing different text over the buttons for each game, saw one post which showed what i was planning but they didnt explain anything for the computer illiterate might as well have been speaking klingon for all my computer knowledge, can do it for other emulators when i finally hear which are the recommended ones as the buttons are fixed, but mame games have different controls so i need to figure it out too, gonna bookmark this incase you get an answer i can use too :)
Hit something hard enough it should work, if it dont the result can always be called art :)

Appreciate the response CpCaveman... I just gave up on the program.  I couldn't seem to get it to do what I was looking for.  I just wanted it to show the labels for the buttons before the game started.  I.e., start a game such as Mortal Kombat, it would show what buttons punch, kick, block, etc. then load the game.  It would have been nice if I hit pause and it would have shown the CP again.  However, I kept getting Microsoft .Net framework problems and it (CPWizard) would take forever to load with only the "Show CP" buttons checked, so I just ditched it.  Might try Johnny5 and see if it's any better.

I thought I read somewhere that Ultimarc's Winipac program would do this as well?  That would be nice because I already have my CP layed out in it.  Any thoughts?

Might try Johnny5 and see if it's any better.

I use Johnny5 and it rocks on the cpanel. My X-Arcade pic and buttons show up for MAME and I even use it for emulators by adding my custom layouts and button info into controls.ini.

miscDetails= Shin Nihon Kikaku (SNK) first ventured into the arcade market in 1989 and was successful with its unique 2D arcade machine.  This arcade version was known as MVS, or Multi-Video Output and allowed 1 of 6 games to be loaded at any time.  The Neo Geo AES (Advanced Entertainment System) was a home version of the Neo Geo MVS and played the exact same games as the ones in the arcades. The major weakness of the Neo Geo AES was the high price tag on the cartridges.  Most games sold for about $200!  The console itself was also fairly expensive, retailing at $650.  Its arcade-style joystick and excellent arcade ports made it a very attractive console.
