Centipede Restore - Question. Advice.
« on: February 17, 2013, 04:32:47 am »
Hi All!

I recently purchased a centipede cab that I would like to restore and clean up. The side art on the cabinet is in really good shape.
My question is what is the best way to clean up the side of the cabinet? The graphics are good but the white color has turned yellow.
I plan on sanding the back of the cabinet and painting it black. Should I sand the sides of the cabinet (making sure not to sand the graphics) and paint it white. I used TSP on the wood which cleaned up a lot of the dirt and smoke.

I need to replace the t-molding too on the cabinet. Does anyone know the exact specs I should order for a centipede stand up cab?

Any more pics showing the overall condition of the sides?  From that pic it almost looks like something you could clean up with a mild bleach+water solution.  Worst case you do like this guy had to do:

Part of me just wants to sand everything like the guy did in the attached URL. I wonder if it will look crappy if I sand around the art and hand-paint everything white again....I've tried mild bleach soup etc... Nothing will take out the baked in yellow color.

I will be sanding the back for sure, the front is near perfect condition after 30 years!
