I can hear them running behind mala. I've searched and can't find anything.

You have a "focus" issue.... likely. See other threads about "focus" problems.
Here's the main one:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,76882.msg1276882.html#msg1276882
Also you might want to check here:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,115101.msg1219869.html#msg1219869
Certain focus issues are a subject of the "soon to be released" new Mala version.
I solve my issues by simply installing both the BETA version of Mala and the FocusLogger plugin.

tried all of the suggestions. Nothing works. I've installed this on many computers and have never had this problem. I tried focus logger. I check the log and its says attempting and failed

Which emulators?
What does your command line look like for each one?
Have you tried unchecking "window - hidden"?

I guess i got it. I added -fullscreen to the execution line of each and it worked. i just find it odd that i didn't have to do it on any other computers.
