AVGA works with Windows and any Windows app., including MAME32 (MAME32 will look crap on an arcade monitor tho IMO).  EDIT:  What I meant there is the GUI won't look good, the games themselves will look perfect.

You can run any emulator on the AVGA.  The only question is whether it runs at native resolution or not - some emu's allow this, some don't.  I have run ZiNc at 640x480 (interlaced) using the AVGA and it looks great :)

You will probably have to wire up a cable.  Buy the pre-hacked cable from Ultimarc, then you only have to wire the monitor end.  If you have a monitor with a VGA type connector you should just be able to use a VGA > VGA cable.  Don't worry about blowing yourself up - you don't need to touch the monitor, just wire up the cable.  ;D

And as slicer_d says, the Ultimarc site tells you everything you need to know...

As you can see, windows look great with an ArcadeVGA. The only problem is flickering, due to the interlaced display. It's a little tyring after a while, so that's why I use black background. You can use MAMEWAH instead of MAME32. MAMEWAH can be displayed in low res non-interlaced modes (no flickering at all, like with games). With windows2000/XP I think you can use lower non-interlaced modes together with virtual desktop. Using a very low res will make things look very large on your desktop, leaving not much free space to work, but the use of virtual desktop will help you with that as you'll have a very large scrolling area. With win98
* Serpent this feature doesn't work.

btw, 640x480 is interlaced....

640x400 isn't (I think that was the one)... ie, there is a resolution similar, but not quite there... (might be 640x240... I don't have one yet... but just remembering what others say).

There IS a great quickres type program (forgot name... sucks...) but it has a command line to change any resolution... and you CAN get windows to run at 320x240... just don't expect the icons to be anything but giant.

Yeah, I said 640x480 is interlaced, but ZiNc still looks great (presumably as there aren't many 1 pixel lines).  640x288 is the biggest non-interlaced res - it looks nice & clean on an arcade monitor, but it looks pretty stretched vertically (as you might expect from the figures).

Sure, you can set the desktop res as anything the AVGA can handle.  I personally would not go below 640x288 for general Windows use tho (I use 640x480 in fact), as you just can't fit anything on the screen!

Cant you choose to run 640x480 at 31kHz and have it non-interlaced, and then have MAME run its games at 15kHz? I have my machine apart right now but Im almost certian thats how I had mine set up. There was a utility that I ran (from Ultimarc's site) that restored Window's 640x480 and 800x600 to 60hz non-interlaced. This is of course assuming that you have a monitor that can handle it (WG 9200 is what Im running).

Well yes I think you're right...I was referring to use with a fixed 15khz arcade monitor.  D9200 owners get the best of both worlds :)
