Question about MAME controls mechanics.
« on: February 09, 2013, 09:43:36 pm »
If youre playing a single player game does MAME disable player 2 controls.  My panel layout features a top fire joystick above player 2 controls so during single player games like tron, your forearm will be hovering/resting on the 2 player 6 buttons. Will this cause problems?

You should be fine in MAME. The controls should do nothing if you accidentally hit them.
The only issue might be your encoder. If you're using an encoder that mimics a keyboard, it might react bad to having a button being held down while pressing other buttons. I think most modern encoders should have no trouble with this though.

for those games just disable all other controls in the config but what your using. with an ipac i dont think there is a button limit to it and if there is it should be at least 8 or so more than enough for any game with a an 8way trigger

No. Generally MAME controls work just like the real game does. If you are playing a single player game then MAME is only aware of the single player controls you have mapped. The only way the other controls would come into play is if they are also mapped to some of the single player functions.

Could've fired it up, simulating with your keyboard, and found out in a few minutes.....

If you move the stick close to the main stick, in a diagonal to the upper left... you can reach each
stick easily, without any need to rest your hands over other controls... nor will have to reach
too deeply into the control panel, which also causes discomfort and fatigue.
