2 Questions Regarding T-Molding + Router
«
on:

What router bit size would you use to route the t-molding slot for:
- 3/4 mdf + a 1/4" plexi overlay for the cp?
- 3/4mdf (for the side panels)?
Also, would it be better to use a fixed-base or a plunge router for cutting t-molding?
Thanks
Edit: here is the 2 types of t-molding I'm going to be using: (1" and 3/4" t-molding)

The slot widths are different on those two, so assuming you have a 1/4" arbor, you would need one each of the two slot cutters & the shank listed here:
http://www.t-molding.com/store/home.php?cat=6
Doesn't matter if the router can do plunge or not in this case since you'd be positioning it and locking it down before making the cut. You may need to do the CP cut offset to allow the t-molding to wind up flush with the top of the plexi.

The proper size slot cutter is listed on the molding page.
1/16
" for 3/4" molding.
.080"
(replacement for 5/64") for 1" molding.
Don't forget the
arbor
.
Be sure to do your depth tests on a scrap piece of MDF.
