[SOLVED] HD4890 calamity Driver Issue
« on: February 04, 2013, 04:04:34 am »
Hello all wondering if anyone has had this issue?

I have installed the latest drivers from
http://mame.3feetunder.com/windows-ati-crt-emudriver/

However my 4890 shows as a 4980 when its installed. (odd)

Anyways when i hook up my monitor to it once its installed, the arcade monitor is hating it, (not 15khZ)

Has anyone had this issue?

Really stumped, i removed it all and tryed just soft 15khz no go :(

my card has 3 ports DVI HDMI and component (svideo lookin conctor)

I am currently using a DVI to VGA adapter that the card came with.)
had this working fine with the x550

So did you get the driver installed or not? By the topic name I thought it refused to install.

Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead or pasting it.

That must be my typo when adding the chipset to the driver's inf, 4980 does not exist, but it doesn't matter. You can manually edit the name in the inf and install again, that should fix the name.

So did you set 640x480@60i with Arcade_OSD before rebooting with the arcade monitor attached?

Hey no i didn't i did that just then, (fixed the name not sure what caused that uninstall and reinstall fixed that)

I selected

reran the program still only 10 resolutions.

However none of them worked.

Turns out a faulty DVI to VGA adapter caused this the 10 work perfectly.

However i am very restricted my x550 gave me 200+ any ideas?

Thanks Calamity

UpdateDriver = 0 ; Specifies if the driver files in DriverPath will be updated with the new video modes, for

AnyCatalyst = 0 ; Allows modelines to be installed for any Catalyst version. This option is experimental and
; known to produce some problems.

Get the updated VMMaker from the same link you posted. It's required to deal with new versions of MAME.

Make sure to set your desktop to a 15 kHz video mode  before attaching your 15 kHz monitor.

EDIT: Once you use the updated VMMaker you'll get your resolutions back.

Yes, it's the normal amout of resolutions since you're using a dynamic mode table (recommended) which trims the list a lot. However I'm missing some resolutions above 640x480, for virtualized resolutions, did you omit them?

Are you doing this with a PC monitor attached? That could be trimming the mode list. If that's the case, go to main menu in Arcade_OSD and disable the lock unsupported modes option.

Ok. The number of custom modes should match the number of modelines in the Modeline.txt file. If you have only 60 modes, it's possible that you're actually running ATI stock drivers instead of the patched ones. This could be due to some installation issue. Depending on the XP you're running, the shipped drivers might be overridding ours. I'd uninstall everthing, run Catalyst Uninstaller (http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1275) and start again.

So does Arcade_OSD show all 109 custom modes now?
Important note: posts reporting GM issues without a log will be IGNORED.
Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead or pasting it.

The new version uses a different format for crt_range lines (old monitor_specs). However if yours is a k7000 you no longer need to use custom crt_range lines, just leave them as 'auto' and set the option 'monitor k7000'.

No, leave VMMaker with the monitor_specs you used for k7000, it's GM only where you can just set 'monitor k7000'

In other words, VMMaker is currently stuck with the old format, only GM is updated.

I know this doesn't make much sense but I didn't have the time to update VMMaker yet  :P

;     vertical games are rotated to fit in horizontal monitor

RotatingDesktop = 0 ; Specifies if both desktop and monitor are rotated

; 3:3 (stretches to square format)
; 3:4 (stretches to full screen)
; h:v (custom aspect ratio)

VerticalAspect = "4:3"

; 2. MONITOR
; ----------

; Monitor Type. Valid types: D9800, D9400, D9200, EGA, VGA, MULTI, H9110, PAL, NTSC, GENERIC, CUSTOM

MonitorType = "CUSTOM"

; Monitor CUSTOM. These values will be used if MonitorType = "CUSTOM"

;
; * HfreqMin-HfreqMax: Minimum and maximum horizontal frequency, in Hz. Defines the range of horizontal frequencies the monitor is capable to sync.
; The higher the horizontal frequency, the higher the vertical resolution available for the same vertical refresh.
; The higher the horizontal frequency, the higher the vertical refresh available for the same vertical resolution.
; The higher the horizontal frequency, the lower the horizontal amplitude of active video (narrower picture).
;
; * VFreqMin-VfreqMax: Minimum and maximum vertical frequency, in Hz, Defines the range of vertical frequencies the monitor is capable to sync.
;
; * HFrontPorch, HSyncPulse, HBackPorch: Horizontal timing and geometry, values in Ás
;
; * VfrontPorch, VSyncPulse, VBackPorch: Vertical timing and geometry, values in ms
;
; * HSyncPol,VSyncPol: sync polarities, 0 = negative, 1 = positive.
;
; * ActiveLinesLimit: Vertical resolutions until ActiveLinesLimit value included, are generated as progressive, regardless the possibility
;                           of obtaining the required vertical refresh value.
;
; * VirtualLinesLimit: Vertical resolutions above ActiveLinesLimit and below VirtualLinesLimit are virtualized, that is, an interlaced resolution
;                            bigger that the native one is generated, with the right refresh, and "hardware stretch" is applied.
;                            Vertical resolutions above VirtulaLinesLimit are generated as interlaced, without any stretching.

; Tolerance for horizontal frequency, in kHz, enables extending the range defined by [ HfreqMin, HfreqMax ]
; The resulting allowed frequency range will be [ HfreqMin - HfreqTolerance, HfreqMax + HfreqTolerance ]

; 3. MODELINE GENERATOR
; ---------------------

; Total number of modelines to generate. Here are the recommended values for each driver version:
; CRT_Emudriver, based on Catalyst 6.5: 160 modes (accepts up to 200, but above 160 HyperSpin will refuse to load)
; CRT_Emudriver, based on Catalyst 9.3: 120 modes (accepts some more but above 120 you can get some blue screens)
; Regular Catalyst                    : 60 modes (won't accept any more)

TotalModes = 120

; If enabled, only creates modes with 32 bits per pixel color depth

Only32BPPModes = 0

; Method for mode table generation. If Mame xml is processed, that will create a lot of different video modes, so the mode table
; will be optimized keeping the most relevant ones, and dropping the rest, to keep below the TotalModes value.
;
; 0 = Static table: modelines are generated keeping their original vertical refresh. This method is intended to be used in
;     combination with ini files for each game.
;
; 1 = Dynamic table: a table of dummy modes is created using xres and yres values while ignoring vfreq. This method is intended
;     to be used in combination with Switchres or Groovymame. No ini files are required using this method (you should disable the
;     GenerateInis option).
;
; 2 = Magic table: a table of 'magic resolutions' is created, by ignoring xres and vfreq and just keeping yres. This method greatly reduces
;     the total number of modes in the list. It's only supported by GroovyMAME, and is intended as a workaround for the Hyperspin issue.

ModeTableMethod_Custom = 0
ModeTableMethod_XML = 1

; Minimum resolution values (these will be used instead of lower values)

XresMin_XML = 240
YresMin_XML = 240
YresRound_XML = 4

XresMin_Custom = 240
YresMin_Custom = 160
YresRound_Custom = 0

; Minimum dotclock value allowed by the video card, in MHz (i.e. DotClockMin = 7.010)

DotClockMin = 0

; Number of iterations used by the mode generator [0,5]. The higher the number of iterations, the bigger the accuracy of the vertical
; refreshed obtained, normally at the cost of increasing the horizontal frequency strictly required.

Iterations = 0

; Specifies if the refresh label is multiplied by 10 before rounding (experimental).

VFreqLabelx10 = 0

; 4. DRIVER
; ---------

; Path for the driver folder

DriverPath = "C:\crt_emudriver_9.3_1.2a_x64_multisync\crt_emudriver_9.3_1.2a_x64\Driver\"

; If UpdateRegistry is enabled, UpdateDriver will only work if the driver version found in DriverPath matches the one installed
; in the system.

UpdateRegistry = 1 ; Specifies if the video card registry section will be updated with the new video modes
; (will only work in combination with CRT_EMUDriver).

UpdateDriver = 0 ; Specifies if the driver files in DriverPath will be updated with the new video modes, for
; future installations.

AnyCatalyst = 0 ; Allows modelines to be installed for any Catalyst version. This option is experimental and
; known to produce some problems.

Who is giving that error? GM or VMMaker?
Important note: posts reporting GM issues without a log will be IGNORED.
Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead or pasting it.

Did you restore the crt_range lines to 'auto' as I said above?
Did you create a fresh mame.ini with the new GM binary to start with?

Oops! My fault, there's a bug in the k7000 definition, I'll need to fix that.

Anyway, to get the same result, use this:

monitor custom
crt_range0 15625-15800, 49.50-63.00, 2.000, 4.700, 8.000, 0.064, 0.160, 1.056, 0, 0, 192, 288, 448, 576

No, VMMaker uses it's own different format, leave it as it is (don't need to run it).

I'm thinking the problem is probably that you have two cards in there wasn't it (#1 ArcadeVGA, #2 HD 4890). GM currently can only access registry information for card #1, so our current modelines can't be read and modes are reported as 'system'. This will be fixed with next release. By now you can disable the 'lock_system_modes' option in mame.ini, however the funtionality will be limited.

Don't forget to post a log, it will show where the problem is.

ah ha! so i disabled the Arcade VGA from windows and rebooted no worries works okay so far, can not do to much testing as i am at work and i am remote controlling however i can see its switching res now.

(AVGA is only used during boot so i do not care that it is disabled!)

Here is an output of the log :)

Yep, that was the problem. Thanks for your logs and tests. Hopefully next version will work with both cards enabled too.
