Help getting EMS Topgun 3 to work
« on: February 03, 2013, 03:09:25 pm »
Sorry if this is in the wrong section,  but hkems apperantly uses this as their avenue of communication. So I recently purchased the EMS topgun 3 for use with my sega m2emulator. I used the driver disc and while it provided the driver files, there was no install wizard for them as mentioned in the manual. Nonetheless, I manually updated the driver files for the USB stick and that managed to get the gun to control my mouses functions. After that, I plugged the sensors in my PC via usb and only one of the four squares lit up, which was blue. The mouse barely moves when I aim the laser at the monitor. Either that, or its sporadic in its movements. I tried calibrating, but the gun doesn't blink at the sensors at all, no recoil at the sensors, and so far I havent been able to resolve this issue, I really would appreciate any help that could be provided to me. Thank You

According to my experience it is imperative that the screen brightness is lower than what the IR LED’s provide, else the gun sensor will not see them.
You can test this with any camera/mobile – there should be some distinct “dots” not interfered by the screen brightness.

Thanks for replying, I turned down my pc screens brightness drastically and the mouse still is all over the place. Strange thing is that the mouses movements are reversed for left and right when I aim the gun. I took a camera shot too, the sensors are still dark except for the blue one. Do I need to turn off the room lights?

I have these guns at home hooked up to my Sanyo 60" lcd screen...i remember having similar issues to this but it had nothing to do with the sensors and TV lighting. the room is fairly bright also.

I think it has to do the install..... when I get home I will do some looking and see what i did to fix them.

Edit.   here is a link to the downloadable info... you need the panel in order to get the guns to work right.... i know i have windows 7 running in test mode inorder to get the drivers to work right. I will look for some info for that too.

Why do these drivers not come with install wizards? Hkems talks about installing them with the install wizard in manuals but yet the driver CD and Windows 7 compatible files only contain the driver files, and there isn't any program in the folders and discs that installs them. Maybe updating the USB stick with the driver files instead wasn't the correct way. What do you mean by Panel? An sensor panel?

Go to the website and download the drivers and panel. Follow the instructions on the forum. When I did that I was able to get them up and running. It takes a bit of reading but the control panel that you download will help with the set up. If you have windows 7 it will take a bit of tweaking to get up and running ann you can email Henry at hkems he is very good at emailing back.   Henry@hkems. Com  he is very helpful.
