Black Screen/Window on Game Start

I'm sure it's something simple but I can't figure this out.  I just updated MAME from 146 to 148.  When I choose a game through MALA, this black  window/screen comes up when I choose to start a game and prior to the actual game start.  Is there anyway I can keep this from happening?  It didn't happen with MAME 146 and is quite annoying... Any help?  Thanks!

K... as I figured it was something simple.  I just checked the "hidden" box for the dos window option in MALA.

However, new question... now every time I exit a game, the windows task bar and mouse show up putting MALA in the background.  What is going on?

I checked the "minimize" button for the dos option and unchecked the "Show fullscreen image" option at game start.  Don't know which of the two it was, but problem solved.  I appreciate the response!
