Grand Lizard sorta resets occasionally
« on: January 31, 2013, 01:46:10 am »
My Grand Lizard has reset on me thrice in the last week or so.

Twice, in the middle of a game, all of the high voltage elements went dead (flippers, bumpers, etc.) & the game got quiet, but the lights remained on & some segments of the score remained on. A power cycle fixed it & it played fine. One of these two times, the game had been on for just a few minutes, so I don't think that excessive heat buildup is the culprit.

In the third instance, the game did reset altogether quickly & it came back up on its own (without having to flip the power switch off & on) & it worked fine. I simply hit start a few seconds later & played & it was fine for a long time. (It's set on free play.)

I assume that I should try the usual routine of removing socketed chips & cleaning chip legs & socket holes & reseating chips, removing & cleaning & reseating all connectors, checking voltages at certain points on PCBs, etc. However, I was hoping that somebody would have some guidance on where I should concentrate, rather than attacking the whole backbox.

Thank you,
-Jason

Try some easy stuff first.

Check for broken diodes on the flipper coils.

Look under the playfield at the wiring... maybe a switch is occasionally touching ground or a General Illumination lamp socket.
